25th Annual Labour Law Conference to be held 1-3 August
Never before has labour law been so much part of the political and social mainstream of debate in South Africa.
From 1-3 August, distinguished speakers and delegates will gather at the Sandton Convention Centre to unpack the notion of ‘decent work’; address the true cost to companies of environmental legislation; hear from the Health Minister about the workplace implications of the controversial NHI; find out what evidence is admissible in a staff misconduct case; and explore privacy rights in terms of the internet and social media.
UCT Professor Alan Rycroft, the chair of the conference organising committee, said they were spoilt for choice with possible topics because “there is so much going on in this space”.
Rycroft said: “Although ‘decent work’ and labour broking are top of mind for many, just as important is how companies are balancing meeting the immediate needs of their shareholders with the far longer-term needs of future generations which sustainability now demands they consider.”
He believes the line-up, under the title theme of ‘Decent Work in a Sustainable Workplace’, is as strong as any ever presented in the 25 years of this highly respected conference.
