The Energy Legislation Service is a compilation of legislation that deals with energy issues. It includes the following Acts:

• Eskom Conversion Act, No. 13 of 2001 which provides for the conversion of Eskom into a public company.
• Electricity Act, No. 41 of 1987 which provides for the continued existence of the Electricity Control regulator and for control of the generation and supply of electricity.
• National Energy Regulator Act No. 40 of 2004 that Establishes a single regulator to regulate the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum pipeline industries.
• Gas Act, No. 48 of 2001 which promotes the orderly development of the piped gas industry; to establish a national regulatory framework; to establish a National Gas Regulator as the custodian and enforcer of the national regulatory framework.
• Gas Regulator Levies Act, No. 75 of 2002 that provides for the imposition of levies by the National Gas Regulator.
• Petroleum Pipelines Act, No. 60 of 2003 which establishes a national regulatory framework for petroleum pipelines; to establish a Petroleum Pipelines Regulatory Authority as the custodian and enforcer of the national regulatory frame-work.
• Petroleum Pipelines Levies Act, No. 28 of 2004 which provides for the imposition of levies by the Petroleum Pipelines Regulatory Authority.
• Electricity Regulation Act, No 4 of 2006 that establishes a national regulatory framework for the electricity supply industry; to make the National Energy Regulator of South Africa the custodian and enforcer of the national electricity regulatory framework; to provide for licences and registration as the manner in which generation, transmission, distribution, reticulation, trading and the import and export of electricity are regulated, and to regulate the reticulation of electricity by municipalities.
