Evert van Eeden attended the University of Pretoria where he obtained a BA LLB. He later obtained an LLM, MBL and LLD from the University of South Africa. He was admitted as an attorney in 1978. Van Eeden served as a lecturer and associate professor in the Department of Mercantile Law of the University of South Africa and has occupied positions in the public and private sectors, spanning consumer protection law, competition law, the governance of state-owned corporations and financial services.

In 1997 Dr van Eeden returned to full time practice as an attorney. He specialises in competition, consumer protection and class action law, and the law of contract, product liability and product recall.

He has written on various subjects for local and international legal publications, including on restructuring and insolvency, and has co-authored a number of publications. He is the author of A Guide to the Consumer Protection Act (2009) and Consumer Protection Law in South Africa (2013), co-authoring its second edition in 2017. He is also the author of the titles “Consumer Protection” and “Competition” in the Law of South Africa (LexisNexis).

Van Eeden is based in Pretoria where he is a director of the firm of Van Eeden Rabie Inc.
