After completing her articles, she she qualified as an attorney and conveyancer and naturally this led to her starting her own firm. From private law, Cathie moved into the corporate world, where she worked as head of legal services at a steel company before moving to Durban to join Grindrod. She has described her job as being the ‘perfect job’ because she gets to make sure that the board meets their legal and regulatory obligations. Her responsibilities also extended to the company's conscience when it comes to ensuring corporate integrity matters more than short-term profits. Cathie is also one of the authors who contribute to the online legal guidance tool from LexisNexis, Practical Guidance, as one of the authors for the Corporate Governance Practice area.
