Michelle obtained her BA (Law) degree from the University of Natal in 1993 and LLB from the same University in 1995 (now UKZN).

The foundation of her Labour and Employment law career was established in November 1996 when she was appointed as an Associate to a Judge of the Labour Court.  Michelle gained invaluable experience during the four years that she worked for several Judges, at various seats of the Labour Court, including Braamfontein, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban.

After her court experience, Michelle was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2002.  In 2005 she was appointed as a Director of Deneys Reitz Inc. (the firm became Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc.) Michelle practised Labour and Employment law in the role of Director at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc. for ten years.  Michelle established her own legal practice in 2018 trading as M.N Attorneys.

Michelle has 18 years’ experience practising as an Attorney in the specialist field of employment and labour law. Her special achievements include: -

  1. Appointment as a pro bono Acting Judge of the Labour Court (2013);
  2. Businesswomen of the Year | Regional Achiever Award Finalist: Professional category, awarded by the Business Women’s Association of South Africa (2012);
  3. President of the Kwazulu-Natal chapter of the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) (2011-2013);
  4. Executive committee member of SASLAW KZN (2003-2013)
  5. Panellist of Aequitate Dispute Resolution Services (from 2017)
  6. Investigations and Disciplinary Committee Member: Legal Practice Council KZN (from 2019)
